Happy Mother's Day

Mother's Day has always been a bit tricky for me. I miss my mom, and the day always slams me in the face with the fact that I have not yet gotten to be a mom. I've spent many a Mother's Day sad, angry, resentful, envious or just plain refusing to acknowledge the day. Sigh.

But there are many kinds of mothers out there, many people who have done motherly things for me, and many opportunities, I hope, for me to do the same.

So, Happy Mother's Day, everyone, to mothers present, mothers we've loved and lost, mothers of others we know, mothers in waiting, and friends who have filled the mother voids.

Welcome, Allison Elaine Brown!

(I received this email today, and am delighted to post it to the family blog. Tim and I send our love and best wishes to this newest family member and her parents and big brother! Linda)

Uncle Elmer, here is the newest member of Clan Brown. Allison Elaine Brown was born on Thursday morning and is a very, very special little girl. You see, Allison was born with no arms or legs. She is a sweet little thing and God must have something special for her to do. Bryan and Lee have known since the 4th month that she would be born with no limbs and were just hoping that her heart would be okay, which it must be. Most babies with this defect don't live to full term. Mommy and Allison came home from the Norfolk Naval Hospital yesterday. Betty and I chuckled because she has the same hair pattern as her great-grandpa had in his later life. Also, in certain pics, I can see Norm. Allison has a big brother, Douglas, who I would imagine will be very protective of his little sister. I'm even more excited over the fact that she was born with brown hair, not blonde like her brother, daddy, mommy, grandma and grandpa were. She is a true "Brown Girl", she came into this world screaming her head off and letting everyone in the OR know that she wasn't happy. LOL

Linda, you can post this on the blog if you want, I tried and couldn't make it work. We are thrilled for Bryan and Lee but know that they have a difficult road ahead. I guess in this family, we are no strangers to making lemon aid out of lemons.

I Shopped Indie at Storyopolis!

Storyopolis is a great kid book store, and is now in Sherman Oaks, 14945 Ventura Blvd., (www.storyopolis.com) about a mile from my house! Got an adorable picture book, DUCK! RABBIT! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal & Tom Lichtenheld. Big smile on MY face. Most fun I've had spending $20 and half an hour in ages.
