Missed Opportunities -- or Near Misses?

It reminds me of a guy I met back in Chicago when I was fresh out of college.
A friend, Nancy, and I were sitting outside a cafe one summer day, and a couple of European men approached us. They appeared middle-aged (I was 23 or 24), shirts unbuttoned down to their navels, gold jewelry, black patent leather slip-on shoes. I was in regular uniform of the day: faded, frayed jeans, and a tee shirt or white man's shirt, I don't recall.
But one of the men came up to us and started admiring my jeans. He went on at length about how great they were, and how good they looked on me. He said he'd love to buy the jeans and talk more over dinner or wine, and handed me his business card.
I think I laughed in his face (my usual tactful self).
Nancy later pointed out I probably could have landed myself a sugar daddy, right then and there. Ah, those missed opportunities...
