Our Sweet Pea

Our beloved cat, Sweet Pea, died last week. She was with us for 19 years, having adopted us in Chicago. She came to us in a "delicate condition," and gave us 6 beautiful kittens. We kept Digit (on the right in the picture here); Leila took one, her Breakfast who was with her for, gosh, 16 years or more? My friend Frances took another, Max, who was with her for many years; and we found loving homes for the other three.

We were so lucky to have Sweet Pea for so long. She taught us a lot, and gave us much joy, and we miss her dreadfully. I'm actually rather startled by how bereaved I feel; but she was part of our daily lives for 19 years, so perhaps I should not be surprised.

Sweet Pea was fun, smart, stubborn, loving, charming, and had the loudest, most comforting purr ever. She was Some Cat.

Domestic Bliss? and more...

Leslie sent me this adorable apron to use in our new kitchen. Tim has been working hard at installing the cabinets, but I couldn't wait any longer to show off the apron. Now we're deliberating on the counter, and I think we've finally decided on tile. But oh! the options! Colors, finishes, sizes, materials... my head spins with the choices.






Meanwhile, Dad is back home from his annual sojourn to Missouri. He did not send me pictures from his high school reunion, but he did send some of his visit with Team Kathleen (or at least some of the team).

Linda's Kitchen Update

Folks have been asking how the kitchen is coming along, so here are a couple snapshots to update. As warned by those with experience, progress has slowed down now that it comes to the "finish" work. Tim has taken a few days off work to install the cabinets -- the scenery builder in him has been itching to get his hands dirty, and he persuaded me this is something he can safely do. We're still deliberating on the countertop, but we have a little time to figure it out. Our cat, Digit, likes to get her paws dirty, too, so she's always checking out the work -- and sawdust.
